Thoughts of a Simple Meal
Ed Connors and Anne Schmitt
A face by the window staring in
A lost and tattered look without a friend
A heart that's so lonely no rest for this soul
Only thoughts of a simple meal in from the cold
Yellow leaves are falling they swirl in the wind
Whistling through the doorway he's been sleeping in
It's easy to turn away and pretend we don't see
Yet that face is a part of us of our humanity.
Chorus
I look in his eyes and I see
A man who's just like me
Though his coat is ragged and torn
He still deserves the dignity with which he was born.
I look up from my coffee he's drifted away
Alone in his darkness he'll wander today
The streets are so empty my heart feels so cold
A man needed caring and I left him alone.
How can this happen do we just not care
For a people so richly blessed we've so little to share
But we can make a difference if we each do our part
And offer a hand to him, open our hearts.
Chorus
