We Must Come Together
Ed Connors
There once was a man, he came from unknown places
He seemed to tell us tales from another time
He looked at our world and wondered what had happened
A just and peaceful people were led across the line.
We sat around a fire and listened to his stories
Of times that were innocent where lives intertwined
With fairness and with justice we shared this world together
Where did those times go they're now so hard to find.
Chorus
He said we must come together
We must close this great divide
We can all work together
And bring change to these times
He said we must come together
And close the great divide
And all share together peace in our lives.
He saw us go to war without true provocation
We started up a fray with a threat that proved benign
Was it just to settle scores for past indiscretions
Or to gain the needed wealth to raise a profit line
He said it's sad to say that the shining hope we carried
Has been slowly sold away by those who do not see
They've ignored our own proud people while setting out on this venture
So that those of wealth are fed and the rest are left behind.
Chorus
As he turned to walk away I asked his name politely
He simply said I'm one whose voice you should know
The voice that's been there always to guide all those who'll listen
You are all with me and I am part of you.
Chorus
